Roz Whitaker-Heck, APR, was an invited panelist for the Capital Region New York chapter’s Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) second annual “Women in PR” held July 18 in Schenectady, NY. The women panelists were asked to share their professional practice experiences that span various sectors of the communication industry. Whitaker-Heck, representing the Higher Education sector, joined panelists Maria Garcia, a Communications Associate with Open Space Institute representing non-profit organizations; Michelle Olsen, APR, Head of the Phoenix Office of Fingerpaint representing the agency sector, and Susan Radzyminski, Director of Marketing, for EYP, representing the corporate public relations sector. Heather Schechter, APR, PRSA Capital Region membership chair, served as the moderator. The women shared their PR career paths, perspectives about needed skillsets of the entering workforce of female practitioners, as well as key nuggets of advice for succeeding in the public relations fields.
Whitaker-Heck has been an active member of PRSA National since 2000, and is currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Yankee Chapter of PRSA that have members working and or living in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. She also serves as the faculty advisor for the Champlain College chapter of PRSSA, the public relations student society of America.
