Champlain Hosts Annual CCM Honors Night

In a celestial-themed tribute, the Division of Communication and Creative Media livestreamed its 2020 Honors Night on April 16.
This was the first time the ceremony was produced for a virtual presentation because of the COVID-19 pandemic that mandated the departure of students from campus. Fifty students, recognized as Shining Stars in the CCM division, were honored as recipients of the Dean’s scholarships for returning students, the Excel Award for outstanding seniors, and other academic honors for the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters.

PBS Made Here Showcase features Champlain Films

On April 30 at 8 p.m., Vermont PBS’s Made Here Showcase will air five films made by Champlain students. The students are majors in the Division of Communication and Creative Media and in the Division of Education and Human Studies.

CCM Students Shoot Films in Saudi Arabia

Over winter break, eight Champlain College students travelled to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to co-produce two short films, alongside local Saudi filmmakers as part of a one-credit travel embedded course. The students’ majors include Filmmaking, Broadcast Media Production, and Creative Media. Professors John Rasmussen, Julia Swift, and Van Dora Williams were faculty leaders of the trip. This was the first year the trip was offered, but Rasmussen says it certainly won’t be the last.

AL LARSEN AND STUDENTS VISIT MASS MoCA

Al Larsen, Associate Professor and Program Director for the Creative Media BFA Program, recently took 32 Champlain College students on a bus trip to the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) for the day. The majority of students were from three of Larsen’s Creative Media classes. Larsen said that although the art scene in Vermont is vibrant and thriving, it’s typically not as large-scale as the work displayed at MASS MoCA. creative media major Produces video in Dublin

Junior Creative Media major Jeremy Partyka spent his fall semester abroad hiking cliffs, step-dancing and creating films. Partyka studied abroad at the Champlain College campus in Dublin, Ireland. While abroad he worked as a video producer with Experience Gaelic Games, a popular Irish tourism company. While abroad he created a video for the company’s YouTube page titled, “Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets – sample Gaelic Games partykaposted on Sept. 15. The video features a group from Georgia Tech College learning how to play traditional Irish sports. The tourism specialists explain the background and culture behind the games and Partyka captures it all. To check out the video, click here. Partyka used his time abroad to update his portfolio in a foreign country and had a blast while doing it.
