Champlain faculty Matt LaRocca recorded his expeditionary residency to the high arctic with Arctic Voices, an immersive multi-media exhibition featuring an orchestral symphony LaRocca composed in response to the “otherworldly environment.”
Accompanying the symphony is LaRocca’s photographic journal of his exploration of the remote archipelago Svalbard aboard the sailing ship Antigua. Arctic Voices, performed by the Boston University Wind Ensemble, emphasizes the contemporary orchestral technique of “Extended Techniques:” unorthodox methods of playing traditional musical instruments, creating unique sounds.
LaRocca is a composter and performer with a B.A. from Middlebury College, a Masters in Music Composition from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Doctorate in Musical Arts from Boston University.
The exhibition is open Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. between January 21 and February 6. A reception will be held January 21 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All are encouraged and welcome to arrend.
