Over winter break, eight Champlain College students travelled to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to co-produce two short films, alongside local Saudi filmmakers as part of a one-credit travel embedded course. The students’ majors include Filmmaking, Broadcast Media Production, and Creative Media. Professors John Rasmussen, Julia Swift, and Van Dora Williams were faculty leaders of the trip. This was the first year the trip was offered, but Rasmussen says it certainly won’t be the last.

Broadcast Media Production Senior selected as intern for Al Roker Entertainment
You may be familiar with the name Al Roker, the Emmy-winning host and weatherman of NBC’s Today Show. He also is the CEO of Al Roker Entertainment, Inc. (ARE) http://www.alroker.com/ and Rhea Hayes, a Broadcast Media Production rising senior will be an intern with the multimedia company in the Fall. Rhea, who will live in New York City for the internship, will be researching new ideas/concepts and following trends online, pitching ideas, and assisting producers. Rhea credits her Broadcast instructor, Keith Oppenheim, for her training on the school’s Tricaster live streaming system that she says gave her a competitive edge since ARE also uses a Tricaster for its productions.
Leveling Up with Sony Recruiters
You’d be hard–pressed to find a game design student that hasn’t credited playing a Sony Playstation as an influence in their career choice. For the first time, Champlain College is welcoming Sony Playstation University Recruiters to campus. The event will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 12:30 p.m. and will continue until 2:00 p.m. Recruiters will be discussing summer internship positions with interested students in the CCM Gallery Lounge.Daphne Walker, career advisor for the game cohort at Champlain, has been in contact with the recruiters for the past few years through the Game Developers Conference.
